1. What conditions does a chiropractor treat?
Scientific literature now substantiates the effectiveness of chiropractic care for various conditions. The following are just a few:
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Numbness & Tingling
- Neck, Shoulder, and Arm Pain
- Scoliosis
- Carpal Tunnel
- Seizure Disorders
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Allergies
- Ear Infections
- Sciatica
- Leg & Foot Pain
2. Does it hurt to get adjusted?
No. Chiropractic adjustments feel great. I am confident that once you begin receiving your adjustments, you will begin to look forward to them. They will become one of the highlights of your week. When you allow the vertebrae in your spine to return to their proper position, you will notice much less stress and tension
3. What is an adjustment?
A gentle, specific “thrust” delivered by hand or instrument. The purpose of the adjustment is to correct your spinal misalignment(s) thus removing the nerve interference in your body.
4. Once you see a chiropractor, do you have to go for the rest of your life?
No. The extent to which you choose to benefit from your chiropractic care is ultimately up to you. Each and every one of us is solely responsible for the quality of our health and well-being. However, we do strongly urge all practice members to consider lifetime, wellness chiropractic care. This is where the long-term, lasting benefits of care are enjoyed. Regular exercise and healthy eating habits are lifestyle decisions and so is lifetime, wellness chiropractic care.
5. Should I continue chiropractic care if I don’t have any symptoms and I feel better?
Yes. Just because symptoms disappear, does not mean a misalignment has been corrected. Most of the patients seen in our office have spinal degeneration (decay) which has taken years to develop. The trauma of the birth process, slips, falls, accidents and countless other stresses over the course of your lifetime adversely affect the health of your spine. The longer you wait to have your spine checked by a chiropractor, the longer it will take to correct a misalignment. However, how you choose to use chiropractic care is ultimately up to you. It has been our experience that those who stop care when they are “feeling fine” return with the same health challenge(s) which brought them to our office in the first place…only it’s usually worse. On the other hand, those patients who commit to long-term, wellness chiropractic care, find their health challenge(s) rarely return and they enjoy a higher quality of life and health.
6. Where would I go to have my x-rays taken?
Symmetry Spine & Wellness Center has an advanced digital x-ray system in our office. If x-rays are needed, you will be able to take them right at the office.
7. How is “Chiropractic Biophysics®” (CBP®) different from “Traditional” Chiropractic?
Chiropractic Biophysics®, or CBP®, is a specialized chiropractic technique practiced by thousands of chiropractors around the world. CBP® doctors specialize in correcting abnormal spinal structure, for example the angle of curvature in your spine. Abnormal spinal structure places increased pressure on the bones of the spine and the discs. This has been shown to be a cause for many cases of neck pain, low or mid back pain, numbness and/or tingling in hands or feet and many other musculoskeletal conditions.
8. Will a CBP® doctor only &crack& my back?
While &traditional& chiropractic adjustments are sometimes performed, CBP® doctors do much more to relieve symptoms and keep pain away. For many patients, spinal adjustments are not enough to correct the spinal problem. For some, the adjustment only gives temporary relief and they feel like &the adjustment isn’t holding or their spine feels like it is slipping back out of place.& To correct abnormal spinal alignment, the muscles must be retrained and strengthened in order to maintain the new corrected position. Therefore, CBP® doctors devise a specific exercise program for each individual patient to help them with their unique spinal problem. Spinal traction is also performed to restore the spine back to its normal position. This has long-term benefits of reducing mechanical stress on the spine and discs. If this stress remains in your spine it can lead to arthritis and spinal degeneration. Only a Certified CBP® doctor should determine which traction is right for your problem.
9. What should I expect at my first visit to a CBP® doctor?
The typical patient under the care of a CBP® doctor undergoes a thorough examination and history of the problem. This helps determine whether your condition is within the realm of our care. Next, a detailed postural exam is done. The final phase of the first office visit is to determine if spinal X-Rays are necessary. Properly taken spinal X-Rays are like a blueprint of your spine and often hold the key to discovering the underlying cause of your pain and discomfort. CBP® doctors analyze X-Rays for biomechanical problems, such as spinal misalignments. After reviewing the results of your exam and X-Rays, a CBP® doctor will schedule you to come in for a Report of Findings. This is when the doctor will explain what he found, whether CBP® can help you, how long it will take to correct and how much it will cost.
10. Does insurance cover CBP® Treatment?
Because spinal care is currently a major health problem in the U.S., CBP® treatment is covered by most insurance plans.
Symmetry Spine & Wellness Center is a Blue Shield Preferred Provider. We also accept most PPO insurance plans, auto insurance policies that include medical payments(med pay), Medicare and personal injury liens. Since there are many plans and coverage varies widely, please call us to find out if your plan covers care in our office. Our staff will verify and explain your benefits to you before treatment.
For patients with little or no chiropractic coverage, we offer an affordable payment program. Most patients pay directly for care, as they discover chiropractic to be extremely cost-effective and affordable.
